Pupil Premium

Information regarding Pupil Premium Grant

The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England (according to the number of children who are, or have been eligible for free school meals and children who are either designated as ‘looked after’, adopted or service children) to raise the attainment and improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

This funding, if eligible, will be received each year that the children remain at primary school, regardless of how your circumstances may change.

Pupil Premium Free School Meals

The school receives additional funding according to the numbers of pupils who are registered for free school meals (FSM). Once a child is confirmed as eligible for FSM s/he is automatically registered for Pupil Premium, with an additional £1320 (2018-19) per pupil being allocated to the school budget. Children remain registered for Pupil Premium for six years after they no longer qualify for FSM.

You qualify if you are in receipt of any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers’ Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of state Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit or Universal Credit

Why Register for Pupil Premium

If you do qualify, we would urge you to take up the entitlement which will support the entire school.  Claiming your £1320 releases much needed funding from other sources to benefit every child at school.

Free School Meals

In Reception and KS1, all children will be provided with a free school meal, whether or not they are registered, but the school will not be able to claim the £1320 unless you register, so PLEASE do by clicking on the image!

It is not necessary for your child to take up the free school meal and they may continue with their present lunch arrangement if wished.  All that is needed is a National Insurance number and our office staff will help with form filling, or with contacting a translator for most languages, if anyone is unsure what to do.

Pupil Premium Reports

The Governing Body is required to provide the following report to parents. The reporting system has been reviewed and an improved Pupil Premium Strategy document was introduced from September 2017.
